Jan 6th and 8th New York, NY
STUDIO SESSIONS is a unique broadcast concert experience taking place at one of the most prolific recording studios in New York City, The Power Station (previously Avatar). It is inspired in part by live TV music shows such as Sessions at West 54th, MTV Unplugged and VH1 storytellers. The series is doing for theater composers what the aforementioned shows did for rock and pop artists. The goal is to celebrate the best of Musical Theater Composition while giving the audience a distinctive representation of the composer's history and body of work. Each episode takes place in the recording studio with all elements exposed, including cameras in the round. The raised platform in the center of the room includes an acoustic band where the singers record and perform for the small studio audience surrounding the action. The Pilot Episode features the music of John Kander. The second episode features the music of Stephen Schwartz.
